About Calvary

IMG_3707(1)_edited.jpg

GLORIFYING GOD.
TRAINING BELIEVERS.
ENGAGING THE WORLD.

Calvary exists to glorify God by encouraging believers to be like Jesus and by faithfully proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ around the world.

We gather for corporate worship of our great Creator God, our Righteous Redeemer and Risen King, Jesus, in whom we place all our hope for this life and the next.

Worship reminds us that we're called to go and make disciples of all mankind, teaching and training men and women with the truth of the Gospel so they can join us in worshiping our great God and King.

Making disciples implies reaching out to nonbelievers. How will anyone follow Jesus unless they are first told the Good News about Him? We're called to "go," and so we strive to be about our mission in sharing Christ with those whom God has placed in our lives.

Cathy and I came to Bellefontaine in 1995, and we fell in love with the people of Calvary.  We raised our three sons here at Calvary, and we are thankful for the ministry this church has had in shaping them spiritually.  Now as grandparents, our goal is to direct the hearts of another generation to be salt and light for our Savior.

As the teaching pastor at Calvary, I use Nehemiah 8:8 as a reminder of my responsibility: "They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading." (ESV)

I grew up in Tipp City, Ohio, and was saved when I was 7 years old. I then surrendered my life to vocational ministry in middle school. The calling to ministry took me eventually to Cedarville University, where I majored in Worship, Youth Ministry, and Christian Education.

I came to Calvary in January of 2023. My passion is to see God's people worship by allowing God's Word to dwell in us richly so that it overflows from our hearts as we gather for corporate worship.

One of the passages of Scripture that has been a guide for me is Colossians 3:16-17. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (ESV)

I started at Calvary in April 2023 as the Student and Family Pastor.  My wife Kate, and I have four kids: Karis, Judah, Hudson, and Asher.  We love cheering on the Buckeyes, playing different sports, and spending time together as a family.

I grew up attending Calvary as a kid until I graduated high school.  I went and got a BA in Youth Ministry and Pre-seminary Bible from Cedarville University and later got an MDiv from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary in Pastoral Ministries.  I have had the opportunity to work in churches in Michigan and West Virginia in various family ministry roles.  I love having the opportunity to point families to Christ.

I am honored to partner with parents as we help guide their kids and students in their relationships with God at a church that had such an impact on me as a student.  A verse that I love to guide me in ministry is 1 Peter 4:10-11 "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks the oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies - in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.  To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever.  Amen". (ESV) I love this as I want students and parents to use their gifts in the church for God's glory alone.

What do we believe?

WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts.

THE TRINITY

We believe that there is one living, true God, eternally existing in three persons equal in every divine perfection.

GOD THE FATHER

We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.

GOD THE SON, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

We believe in the eternal Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe that he died, was buried, and rose again to pay for our sins.

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the Holy Spirit who is equal in all aspects with God the Father and God the Son. We believe He was sent forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Christ.

REGENERATION

We believe that all men are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that those who accept Christ are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

END TIMES

We believe in the Pre-Tribulational, Pre-Millennial, personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth and the establishment of His kingdom.

THE CHURCH

We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members. The local church is an expression of the universal church, a self-governing body comprised of baptized believers.

ORDINANCES

We believe that Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
